VANCOUVER, B.C. – Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 got a pair of goals apiece from Chris Hellmann and Daniel Haber as it swept to a 5-0 victory against Trinity Western University on Thursday afternoon.

WFC2 took the lead 10 minutes in as a long pass by center back Vana Makarian was flicked on by Victor Blasco to Jordan Haynes down the left. Haynes sent in a cross that found Hellmann, who controlled and fired home to open the scoring.

Vancouver was then awarded a penalty kick when Blasco was brought down in the penalty area, and Haber stepped up to convert from the spot. Hellmann, a former PDL All-League selection for the Des Moines Menace, added his second soon after, before Haber’s second arrived from close range off a cross by Blasco.

WFC2 added a fifth on an own goal in the second half as they wrapped up a second consecutive preseason victory.

“Another good exercise today and a step in the right direction,” said WFC2 head coach Alan Koch. “I thought our starting group came out and tried to play the way that we want to play. We made some mistakes, but we’re taking the risks that we want to take in possession and we scored some good goals. But give Trinity credit, they didn’t quit and played hard for the full 90 minutes, which is exactly what we needed.”

WFC2 will continue its preseason preparations on Sunday, Feb. 28 as it hosts the University of Washington at Simon Fraser University at 1 p.m. PT.
