DALLAS – Tulsa Roughnecks FC rallied back to take a 3-2 victory against Southern Methodist University on Wednesday morning at Westcott Field. Sammy Ochoa, Cristian Mata and Matt Whatley were on target for the Roughnecks as they took their third win of the preseason.

Ochoa opened the scoring just over a quarter of an hour into the game, as he put home his fifth goal of the preseason, but the Mustangs – who were ranked No. 11 to conclude the 2015 NCAA season – responded strongly before the break to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.

The Roughnecks rebounded strongly in the second half, and got back on level terms just over 10 minutes in when Mata headed home a cross by Iarfhlaith Davoren to make it 2-2.

Whatley then scored 10 minutes later in his first appearances for the club as he finished off a corner by recent signing Adriano Pellegrino to give the Roughnecks a 3-2 victory.

“We keep coming back in matches and showing some character,” Roughnecks Coach David Irving said. ”And, we keep getting better with each game. It was a good outing this morning for us against a quality side at just a beautiful facility.”

The Roughnecks will wrap up their preseason on Saturday as they host FC Wichita and ONEOK Field, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. CT. The club will then host Rio Grande Valley FC in the opening weekend of the 2016 USL regular season on Saturday, March 26.
