JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Tulsa Roughnecks FC fell in the final game of its preseason trip to Florida on Saturday as Miami FC scored once in either half to take a 2-0 win at Patton Park.

Going into their four game in seven days, the Roughnecks appeared to be a step slow as Miami had the better of the first half. It appeared the teams would enter the break scoreless, however, until Pablo Campos found the back of the net to give Miami the lead a minute before halftime.

Tulsa picked up a little in the second half, and Sammy Ochoa almost added to his four preseason goals so far, only to be denied by Miami goalkeeper David Sierra early in the second half. Campos added a second with 20 minutes to go for Miami, and while Tulsa tried to fight back, it was unable to find the back of the net late on.

Despite the first defeat of the preseason, Roughnecks Coach David Irving was pleased with the way his side tried to push through some fatigue.

“It was obvious that we were a little tired today, but I thought it was still a good performance," said Irving. "They basically played two squads, while we were still shorthanded.

“But, you really have to look at the big picture. We came out of this final match with no major injuries. We replaced David Abidor in the first half because of slight groin pull, but we overall are in good shape.”

The Roughnecks will return to Tulsa to continue their preseason this week, with the club’s next exhibition set for Saturday night against the University of Tulsa. After Wednesday’s automotive accident that saw some players suffer injuries, Irving said it will be good to get back to Oklahoma and continue building.

“These last few days have probably been the toughest of my coaching career,” he said. “The boys have been really great, but it will feel good to get home.

“The time down here has been very worthwhile as we have set a good foundation for the season. Sometimes, these types of events can bring a squad closer together, and I think that has happened.”
