FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Sammy Ochoa and Jasson Ramos Carpio each scored twice as Tulsa Roughnecks FC took a 5-1 victory against Florida Gulf Coast University on Sunday afternoon in the club’s first game of the preseason.
“It was a good way to start the preseason,” said Roughnecks Coach David Irving. “We are in a little different position than last year, as we are much further along at this point and time. We certainly have some options to choose from.”
The Roughnecks held the upper hand for much of the game, and took the lead in the 18th minute when Brady Ballew set up Ochoa for his first of the game. Cristian Mata went close to doubling the lead nine minutes later as his shot was saved, but a minute later the former University of Tulsa standout set up Ballew to make it 2-0.

Ochoa added a second before the halftime break as he put away a chance created by trialist Corentin Voitot for the Roughnecks third. Voitot was one of a number of trialists who appeared for the Roughnecks as the club looks to build its squad for the new season.
Florida Gulf Coast pulled a goal back early in the second half, but Ramos Carpio bolstered the Roughnecks’ lead with a pair of goals in the second half, the first in the 70th minute off an assist by Taylor Morgan.
The 20-year-old Guatemalan, who is set to be announced as signed after Tulsa completes his paperwork, capped the performance in the final minute as he put home his second off an assist by former Sacramento Republic FC forward Kaleemullah.
