MONTREAL – USL Eastern Conference rivals FC Montreal and the Rochester Rhinos played to 0-0 draw in a preseason exhibition on Tuesday afternoon at Olympic Stadium.
Neither side threated much offensively in the opening half, but Montreal created a late chance when midfielder Mastanabal Kacher fired over the crossbar from just outside the penalty area.
The game began to open up a little more early in the second half as Rochester had a chance blocked by Montreal defender Janouk Charbonneau. Montreal responded moments later as Kacher and Ballou Jean-Yves Tabla combined well, but Tabla’s shot was denied.

Montreal’s Marco Dominguez also threatened with a shot from 25 yards that was saved just before the hour-mark, while Jacques Haman had a shot turned away for a corner kick, but neither side was able to find a breakthrough as Montreal recorded its fourth consecutive shutout of the preseason.
“We know that we've been good defensively for a while now,” said Montreal Head Coach Philippe Eullaffroy. “Unfortunately, offensively, it also confirms that we have trouble finishing. We have to be better in the last 25 metres with our passing selection. But we played the defending champions and, had we been at that level last year, we would have had a better season. It shows that progress was made.”
Montreal will wrap up its preseason on Saturday as it faces Ottawa Fury FC. Kickoff at Olympic Stadium is set for 2 p.m. ET.
