CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Independence have announced the signing of goalkeeper Kyle Renfro for the 2016 USL season.

Renfro spent the 2015 season with the Harrisburg City Islanders after having competed for the Charlotte Eagles in 2014. The 24-year-old competed collegiately for Virginia Tech, where he became only the second Hokie to earn ACC All-Conference First Team honors in the program’s history.

“We are excited to welcome Kyle back to Charlotte and have him strengthen our goalkeeping group,” said Independence Head Coach Mike Jeffries. “His work ethic and positive mentality mesh with our philosophy and will help push our team. More importantly, he is a quality shot stopper capable of making top-class saves and gets off his line quickly to prevent opportunities. We are fortunate to be able to add a goalkeeper with Kyle’s experience and qualities to our team.”

Renfro joins fellow offseason addition Cody Mizell in the Independence’s goalkeeping corps for the 2016 season.
