Bardsley, Cortez Highlight Arizona’s New Signings

PHOENIX – Arizona United SC announced on Saturday the addition of five players ahead of the 2016 USL season, with veteran forwards Gibson Bardsley and Chris Cortez among them.

Also set to be with United this season are Daniel Antunez, one of the first signings in club history, and newcomers Miguel Timm and Uchenna Uzo.

Cortez has a consistent presence in the USL over the past three season with Orange County Blues FC. Cortez appeared in 67 regular-season matches for the Blues and scored 20 goals while adding five assists. This past season, he recorded six goals and two assists as the Blues finished top of the USL’s Western Conference.

Bardsley has played in the USL since his debut in 2011. He has 71 career appearances and has scored 19 goals in that time. He spent 2015 split between two clubs: USL’s Tulsa Roughnecks FC (four goals in 18 appearances) and Maltese side Pembroke Athleta (one goal in nine appearances).

Antunez returns to the Valley for his third season. In his previous two seasons, Antunez made 30 appearances and scored one goal for United.

Timm most recently played with South African side Mpumalanga Black Aces Football Club, where he made a total of 34 appearances (and three goals). Prior to that, he appeared in 22 matches (one goal) with another South African side, Bidvest Wits Football Club. Timm also made appearances for the U17, U20, and U23 South African National teams.

Uzo had an accomplished college career at Coastal Carolina. He was an All-Big South selection all three seasons he played at the school (he was a first team selection in his senior season). He was also named the 2014 Big South Tournament MVP in his senior season.

Arizona kicks off its 2016 regular season with a visit to face the LA Galaxy II at StubHub Center on Saturday, March 26. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT.
