CASA GRANDE, Ariz. – Arizona United SC fell 4-0 to Indy Eleven on Friday afternoon as the side lost for the second time this preseason in four contests. All four Indy goals came in the second half, as Wojciech Wojcik scored a hat trick.
“If you look at it, we had 2-to-3 signed guys on the field [in the second half] and the rest are trialists,” said United Coach Frank Yallop. “I found out a lot about them in those moments, which is disappointing because they’re wearing our uniform and our badge, but it wasn’t a good display for those 20 minutes.”
The opening half was a relatively even affair, as Arizona’s defense limited the number of shots the Eleven managed on goal, and its attack came close to opening the scoring. Jose Cuevas pulled a shot wide of the post in the 16th minute, while Chris Cortez had a header go over the crossbar for United a minute later.

Gibson Bardsley also went close on the half-hour mark for Arizona as Yallop’s attack tried to find openings against a defense that included former USL All-League selections Nemanja Vukovic and Colin Falvey.
“I think the first half was good,” said Yallop. “We had some good moments. We played pretty well. I think for 60 minutes we were OK. But we had a 20-minute spell where we really took our foot off the gas.”
Things came undone for United’s defense in the second half as Wojcik notched three of Indy’s four second-half goals. The Eleven also notched two goals in a three-minute span to make it 3-0, and put the game away with about 20 minutes to go.
Arizona will continue its preseason next Thursday, as it faces fellow USL club Orange County Blues FC in Casa Grande, Ariz.
