TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona United SC fell in its final game of the Desert Diamond Cup on Saturday night as the Colorado Rapids took a 3-0 win at the Kino Sports Complex.
Colorado took the lead in the 17th minute when Arizona defender Julian Ringhof scored an own goal off a cross by Dillon Powers. The Rapids added to their lead just past the half-hour mark when Shkelzen Gashi found teammate Kevin Doyle, who tucked his shot inside the right post. Gashi then added a goal of his own in the 63rd minute to close out the scoring.
Despite the defeat, Arizona Coach Frank Yallop was mostly pleased with what he saw from his side.
“I don’t think the score reflected the performance,” said Yallop. “I was happy with a lot of aspects of the game. All in all, I thought our ball movement was good. We created some good chances and I think we were very unlucky not to score one or two goals tonight.”

The contest concluded Arizona’s first segment of preseason training as it builds up to its season-opener against the LA Galaxy II on Saturday, March 26 at StubHub Center.“It’s always nice seeing that we do have attacking moments and we do create a lot of opportunities,” said United midfielder Blair Gavin. “Now it’s about keeping the ball out of our net and finishing those chances when they come.”
