TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona United SC will face the Colorado Rapids on Saturday in the final day of action at the 2016 Desert Diamond Cup looking to build on a solid midweek victory against tournament hosts FC Tucson. Kickoff at the Kino Sports Complex is set for 6:30 p.m. PT.

Arizona’s preseason kicked off last Saturday as it played fellow USL club the Swope Park Rangers to a scoreless draw. Frank Yallop’s side notched its first goals of the preseason against its in-state PDL rival on Wednesday, as Gibson Bardsley opened the scoring, and Chris Cortez scored twice in quick succession to give United a 3-1 win.

“In our last game, we didn’t score any goals, so that was our main focus this game,” said midfielder Jose Cuevas following the game with Tucson. “[Last Saturday] I thought we did well defensively. We did well in the midfield. We just needed that end product. And I think today we showed that we can do it and it’s just going to keep getting better and better.”

Colorado has yet to take victory at this year’s Desert Diamond Cup, most recently falling 4-1 to Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday night. The Rapids also fell 3-1 to Swope Park to open the tournament, before taking a 0-0 draw against the Houston Dynamo last Saturday. In their final preseason tune-up before the start of the MLS season, Pablo Mastroeni’s side will want to put a win on the board, giving United a solid challenge as it continues to prepare for the USL season, now four weeks away.

Arizona will face the LA Galaxy II in its opening game of the 2016 USL regular season on Saturday, March 26 at 7:30 p.m. PT at StubHub Center.
