Austin Aztex News Release -

Friday, September 4, 2015

AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Aztex (8-13-3, 27pts) will look to close out their final home game of their inaugural USL season on a high note when they face Seattle Sounders FC 2 (12-10-3, 39pts) on Saturday evening at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex.

This will be the first ever meeting between the two squads, which will face each other again in Seattle on September 17th.  These teams will also be looking to reverse their recent fortunes, as both Austin and S2 have taken only one win in each of their last five matches.

With a win, the Aztex can secure a winning record at home in Austin. To date, the team currently has a 5-5-3 record in Austin, split between House Park and Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex. In May, the Aztex were forced to switch venues after House Park was damaged by flooding on Memorial Day.

Seattle enters the game looking to clinch a playoff spot, which they could secure with a win on Saturday. While Seattle is in the playoff race, they have struggled on the road, where they carry a 2-8-3 record away from Starfire Stadium.

The Aztex will look to put together a complete performance and push off Seattle’s playoff hopes to another day. The Aztex backline and goalkeeping work have been one of the toughest defenses to crack, as the team is ranked ninth in USL with a 1.33 goals-against-average.

The Aztex offense is led by Kris Tyrpak and Trevin Caesar with eight goals scored apiece, but Caesar will be unavailable on Saturday after being selected to the Trinidad & Tobago National Team to face Mexico on Friday night. The Aztex have created scoring opportunities through their possession-based attack, outshooting their opponents 289 to 280. The Aztex attack will look to break through Sounders FC 2 goalkeeper Charlie Lyon, who carries a 1.71 goals-against-average into the match.

Tickets to the match can be purchased at The Aztex will be celebrating Youth Sports Appreciation Night, where all youth sport participants 18 and under wearing their jersey will receive a free general admission ticket to the match.
