WILMINGTON, N.C. – Wilmington Hammerheads FC announced on Tuesday the signing of Brazilian defender Bruno Perone for the 2016 USL season.
“I am thrilled to have a player of Bruno's pedigree to sign in Wilmington,” said Head Coach Mark Briggs. “He has played at the highest level in England and Brazil, and he will bring leadership and experience that is needed in any team. He is a player that our supporters will want to come and see.”
The 28-year-old Perone brings extensive experience both from his native Brazil, where he played for historic clubs such as Corinthians S.C. and Figueirense, and also from a stint with Queens Park Rangers in England. The 6-foot-4 center back most recently played for Kerala Blasters FC in the India Super League.

“I'm very happy to play in the U.S. and eager to become a part of the Hammerheads,” said Perone.The Hammerheads kick off the 2016 USL regular season on Saturday, March 26 as they visit Orlando City B. The club’s home opener is set for Friday, April 1 against longtime rivals the Richmond Kickers at 7 p.m. ET.
