WILMINGTON, N.C. – Wilmington Hammerheads FC has announced the signing of former Celtic and Manchester United midfielder Liam Miller for the 2016 USL season. The former Republic of Ireland international has also played in Australia’s A-League.
“Liam is a fantastic addition to our roster and the club,” said Head Coach Mark Briggs. “He brings a wealth of experience from a glittering playing career. Adding a player like Liam shows the direction the club wants to head in.”
“I am looking forward to the season starting and to success with the Hammerheads,” said Miller. “It will be a new and exciting challenge for me personally.”

Miller began his professional career with Celtic, where he had been an academy player, and made 26 appearances for the historic Scottish club before signing with Manchester United in 2004. While at United, Miller made nine appearances, and was also sent on loan to Leeds United.
Miller also played for Sunderland and Queen’s Park Rangers in England, combining for 70 appearances between the two clubs, before he returned to Scotland to play for Premier League side Hibernian. Miller made 66 appearances for the Edinburgh club over two seasons before heading to Australia in 2011 to play for the Perth Glory in the A-League.
Miller made 49 appearances for Perth, and another 16 for the Brisbane Roar during his time in Australia, following which he headed to Ireland to play for Cork City in the Irish Premier League.The 35-year-old also made 21 appearances for the Republic of Ireland internationally, with his only goal for his country coming in a 3-0 friendly win against Sweden in 2006.
