WILMINGTON, N.C. – Wilmington Hammerheads FC has announced the signing of former Atlanta Silverbacks midfielder Ferrety Sousa for the 2016 USL season.

“I am extremely excited about coming to Wilmington,” said Sousa. “Coaches Mark [Briggs] and Matt [Glaeser] both seem like very humble people and are ambitious about turning the club around, and I'm very motivated in helping them do so. Wilmington isn't too far from home so it'll be great to get closer to home and play in front of family, friends and the Wilmington fans.”

Sousa spent the past two seasons with the Silverbacks. A native of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the 25-year-old midfielder made 12 appearances in league play for the club after having previously played two seasons in France. He also appeared twice in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

“We recognized Ferrety at a combine and his attitude, speed and tenacity impressed me right away,” said Head Coach Mark Briggs. “He will bring some grit and a winning mentality to our defensive line.”
