Riverhounds Sign Local Standout Alfery

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Riverhounds announced on Wednesday the signing of local goalkeeping standout Brenden Alfery for the 2016 USL season.

Alfery had been the starting goalkeeper for Robert Morris University over the past two seasons, as he made 37 appearances for the Colonials across his junior and senior season. This past fall, he led the Northeast Conference with 112 saves, posted a goals-against average of 1.15, and recorded five shutouts.

The 21-year-old rookie is the third goalkeeper added to the Riverhounds’ roster this offseason following the departure of Calle Brown to Major League Soccer’s Houston Dynamo. Alfery joins veteran goalkeeper Hunter Gilstrap and Costa Rican stopper Mauricio Vargas to compete for the starting position at Highmark Stadium this season.
