CHESTER, Pa. - The Philadelphia Union announced on Tuesday it had signed 2015 USL Rookie of the Year Finalist Ken Tribbett ahead of the new MLS season.
Tribbett had previously been signed by Bethlehem Steel FC this offseason, but an impressive preseason with the squad saw the former Michigan Bucks standout in the PDL added to the Union’s squad for 2016.
“We have always valued Ken’s ability and potential, which was a prime reason we were so adamant to keep him within our organization,” Philadelphia Union Sporting Director Earnie Stewart said. “However, once camp started, Ken displayed a next level in his game and it became evident he needed to be a permanent fixture with our first team. We’re delighted with his progress and we believe in his ability to make an impact for our club this year.”

Tribbett played in every minute of every game for the Harrisburg City Islanders in his rookie season in 2015, one of only two players in the USL to do so. He also scored three goals, and was nominated as a Finalist for the league’s Rookie of the Year award. He is the 11th player to have signed with an MLS club this offseason after competing in the USL in 2015.Prior to turning professional, Tribbett was a 2014 PDL All-Central Conference selection with the Bucks as he helped the club claim the PDL Championship. He also had a strong career at Drexel University, where he earned second-team All-South Atlantic region, first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association and CAA All-Tournament honors after leading the Dragons to their first CAA Tournament title and a second consecutive berth in the NCAA tournament during his senior year.
