HARRISBURG, Pa. – After more than a decade, and more than 100 victories as head coach for the Harrisburg City Islanders, Bill Becher will also hold the title of General Manager as he enters his 13th season with the club in 2016.
Becher will now oversee the team’s overall operation, in addition to applying his leadership to the club away from the field.
“Adding to Bill Becher’s responsibilities only shows how much we value him as not only our Head Coach but also as a manager of this club,” said City Islanders President Roy Mehl. “Bill has shown this organization, the United Soccer League, his fellow coaches and players his notorious ability to put together a competitive team year after year.”

Becher is the only head coach in the City Islanders’ history, and in 2013 claimed his 100th regular-season victory. The City Islanders have twice reached the USL Championship Game in 2011 and 2014, as Becher’s ability to identify talent has not only created strong teams year-in and year-out, but also helped numerous players advance to Major League Soccer.
As the club’s GM, Becher aims to continue the traits that have made the City Islanders successful for more than a decade.“We have consistently been one of the younger teams in the league and that is by design. We know there are many quality players out there that just need a chance to prove themselves,” Becher said. “Our goals each year is to put ourselves in position to win a championship and to see some of our players move on to the next level whether that is in MLS or overseas.”
