LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville City FC scored three goals in a seven-minute span on its way to a 4-0 win against SIU-Edwardsville on Saturday afternoon at the club’s training facility in a closed-door scrimmage. Conor Shanosky scored twice for Louisville in its first official scrimmage of the preseason.
“There were lots of things we can be encouraged by, but equally there are a couple of things we need to work on,” Louisville Coach James O’Connor said. “That was a quality, championship-caliber team we just played. We learned a lot; things we’re pleased with and things to now work on.”
SIU-Edwardsville claimed the Missouri Valley Conference Championship last fall, and offered a good test for O’Connor’s side. Shanosky broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark as he put away a rebound off a corner kick, and added a second with a powerful header six minutes later from another set piece.

Between the center back’s two goals, Louisville also scored from the penalty spot after George Davis IV was brought down in the area. Chandler Hoffman stepped up to convert as Louisville took a 3-0 lead into the halftime break.
City continued to have chances in the second half as Ilija Ilic went close with a bicycle kick and also a header. Louisville added its fourth just before the final whistle, as a free kick by Davis found Tarek Morad to head home.
“It was great to see Conor score, it was great to Tarek score. I’m delighted for Chandler to get a goal,” O’Connor said. “I’m really pleased and that’s something we want to happen through the course of the year, for people to pitch in with goals. There were some really good performances today.”
Louisville continues its preseason preparation on Thursday night when it visits the University of Louisville at Lynn Stadium, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
