ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Progress toward the successful resolution of the future of the Rochester Rhinos was made on Friday, as the Rochester City Council announced it would seek to enter into a lease agreement with an ownership group headed by local residents David and Wendy Dworkin for the use, operation and maintenance of Sahlen’s Stadium.
The agreement is pending the successful completion of the purchase of the Rhinos by David and Wendy Dworkin, who are minority owners in the NBA’s Sacramento Kings, and the principal owners of LLD Enterprises, a local, Rochester-based property development, management and brokerage company.
“It is my great pleasure to announce that the Rochester Rhinos will remain in Rochester,” said Rochester Mayor Lovely A. Warren. “This partnership among the City, the Dworkins and the USL will bring necessary upgrades to the stadium including needed new turf, it will result in more dynamic operation of this important community facility and ultimately it will result in jobs for our residents.”The Mayor has submitted the necessary legislation to City Council to authorize approval of this agreement at its meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
