GOLDEN, Colo. – A pair of goals in the final 10 minutes lifted Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC to a 2-0 victory against the Colorado School of Mines on Tuesday night, as Nate Robinson and Martin Maybin found the back of the net at Stermole Stadium.
Robinson scored his second goal of the preseason with eight minutes to go as he drove home a finish from 25 yards out into the left corner of the net. Three minutes later Maybin wrapped up the victory as he fired home a shot into the roof of the net from just outside the penalty area after a good piece of play down the left side by Saeed Robinson.
“I wish we would have scored more goals, but we were still able to get another result,” said Switchbacks Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. “I think we're going to be happy to return home on Saturday to a grass field and a home crowd.”

The Switchbacks put pressure on the Orediggers early on, as Shintaro Harada and Miguel Gonzalez both had shots narrowly miss the target in the opening 10 minutes. Colorado Springs had a number of close calls through Maybin, Jordan Burt and Luke Vercollone as the half progressed, but the teams went to the break scoreless.
Chances continued to pile up in the second half, as new signing Jacob Cawsey had a pair of shots blocked in the final 20 minutes, but the breakthrough finally came when Nate Robinson’s powerful finish found the back of the net.
“We started out slow,” said Maybin, “but we picked up the intensity in the second half and got another result.”
The Switchbacks will return home to Switchbacks Stadium this Saturday as they host the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. MT.
