COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC has announced the signing of former Orange County Blues FC goalkeeper William Thompson for the 2016 USL season.

“I knew about William before last season when he played with FC Tucson in the PDL,” said Switchbacks Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. “We now have two quality keepers that will make our team solid in goal and solidify our defense.”

Thompson was a standout for FC Tucson in the PDL in 2014 as he claimed the league’s Goalkeeper of the Year award as Tucson reached the Western Conference Championship Game before being eliminated by the Kitsap Pumas.

Thompson turned professional with the Blues last season, where he served as a back-up to Pepe Miranda. Thompson made a key contribution to the Blues in his first professional start, however, as he made a late save on a penalty kick against the Austin Aztex to preserve a 1-0 win.

“It is an honor to be joining the Switchbacks for the 2016 season,” Thompson said. “The Switchbacks organization is run in a professional manner in which grounds itself in the local community. I am both grateful and humbled by the opportunity to continue my professional career in such an environment. I cannot wait to begin working towards the 2016 USL Championship.”
