HARRISON, N.J. – The New York Red Bulls II and Bethlehem Steel FC exchanged goals a minute apart as they played to a 1-1 draw in a preseason exhibition at the Red Bulls Practice Facility on Friday afternoon.

The Red Bulls II took the lead in the 74th minute when Academy player Noah Powder put his side ahead, but a minute later Erik Ayuk answered for the Steel as the game ended all square.

Neither side created much in the way of chances in the opening 25 minutes, but the Red Bulls II came close to taking the lead off a corner kick in the 27th minute. Stefano Bonomo rose to meet the delivery, but his header slid wide of the post.

The Steel had a pair of chances in the second half that forced saves from Red Bulls II goalkeeper Rafael Diaz, and New York almost took the lead in the 63rd minute when trialist Junior Flemmings put a header toward goal, but it clipped the crossbar and went over.

The breakthrough arrived 11 minutes later, however, as Powder pushed into the penalty area during a spell of Red Bulls II possession. The ball reached the Trinidad & Tobago youth international at the penalty spot, and he hit a left-footed shot into the net.

The Steel got back on level terms a minute later when Akuk seized on a poor piece of control in the NYRB II defense, and finished from the top of the penalty area.

The Red Bulls II came close to a winner with eight minutes to go when Tim Scholl met an in-swinging corner kick at the near post, but his flicked header flew wide of the far post.
