BRADENTON, Fla. – OKC Energy FC claimed its first win of the preseason on Wednesday afternoon as it took a 1-0 win against Danish side HB Koge at IMG Academy. Evans Frimpong scored the only goal, his first for the club.
The 70-minute scrimmage saw Energy FC use a number of new faces in its starting lineup, as offseason signings Jacob Lissek, defender Karl Hyland and forward Tim Janssen joined Frimpong in making their first starts for the club.
Frimpong took advantage of a good piece of work by OKC veteran Cyprian Hedrick to give his side the lead in the 58th minute, as he fired home from the left side of the penalty area.

“I know [Cyprian] holds the ball up well, so I just ran into the box,” Frimpong said. “When he tried to clip the ball in, it just went off the defender and I took it. I looked up, and the goalie was already down, sliding through the first ball.”
OKC Coach Jimmy Nielsen was pleased overall to pick up the victory, but also thought there were some areas the side could improve.
“I honestly think the quality on the ball could have been better,” Nielsen said. “Maybe we were overthinking the situations a little bit. We’ve been working a little bit on our positions, but we’re going to keep going back to the practice field and keep working on it, and get those routines so the guys aren’t overthinking the situations.”Energy FC will face USL opposition in its next preseason outing as it faces Orlando City B on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET at IMG Academy.
