VAUGHAN, Ont. – Toronto FC II conceded a goal in the closing seconds as it fell 2-1 to Ottawa Fury FC on Friday afternoon in a preseason scrimmage at the Ontario Soccer Centre. Sal Bernal found the net for TFC II in its second contest this preseason.

With a number of players returning to Toronto from training camp with the club’s MLS squad, TFC II Coach Jason Bent called on a large contingent of academy players in the scrimmage. In all, 11 players from the TFC Academy saw action, and showed well as Bernal leveled the game in the second half after Ottawa had taken the lead from the penalty spot before the break.

"I was quite pleased with the effort from the young players that came in, especially in the second half,” said Bent.

The side was made to pay for a late mistake, however, as former USL Golden Boot winner Dennis Chin scored the winner for the visitors with a header into the top-right corner of the net that beat goalkeeper Alex Bono.

“At the end of the day we’re not happy we ended up losing the game right in the dying seconds,” said Bent. “We felt we put in enough to get a tie or possibly a win, but it is preseason, so if we’re going to make mistakes, it’s better that we make them now.”
