Toronto FC II took a 2-0 victory against Vaughan Soccer Club on Saturday in its first preseason contest of the season, and defender Skylar Thomas was pleased with the way the side performed in its first outing of the club’s second season.
“It’s good to get a winning mentality,” Thomas said. “We had a plan, and we executed well, so we’re happy with our performance today.”
TFC II struggled at times to find consistency in its first season in the USL as it finished 11th in the Eastern Conference. While there were some notable performances, including victories against playoff sides the Charleston Battery and Richmond Kickers at the Ontario Soccer Centre, Thomas said the side should be pushing for greater success in 2016.

“Last year we were a little bit unfortunate and didn’t come up with as many points as we wanted, but this year we should push for more wins,” Thomas said. “We have a lot of good guys on the team, a great squad, great coaching staff, so I think that should be the goal this year.”
Luca Uccello, who scored one of the goals in Saturday’s victory after spending time with the club’s MLS squad earlier this preseason, is looking to bring the mentality he saw from the club’s veterans to TFC II this season.“You’re playing with world-class players over there, and coming back here and trying to bring that same mentality here really helped me as well,” Uccello said. “Not just myself, but Raheem [Edwards] too, we’re trying to bring that same game that we bring every day.”
