SANTA ROSA, Calif. – Sacramento Republic FC scored three second-half goals to take a 4-0 victory against the Sonoma County Sol on Saturday night at Nevers Field in a preseason exhibition. Tommy Stewart scored twice for Republic FC in the win.
Sacramento took the lead in just the fifth minute when Octavio Guzman was brought down in the penalty area. Stewart stepped up and converted the penalty kick as he sent the goalkeeper the wrong way with a shot to the right corner.
Sonoma County had a chance to level the score on the half-hour mark, but Republic FC goalkeeper Dominik Jakubek made the save to deny Pedro Guerrero. Sacramento almost added to its lead six minutes later, but Stewart was ruled offside as he put away the rebound of a shot by Mackenzie Pridham.

Six minutes into the second half Sacramento scored its second, as Pridham controlled a lofted pass in the right side of the penalty area. The forward then laid the ball off to an onrushing Emrah Klimenta, who drove a strong finish into the back of the net.
Stewart added his second just past the hour-mark as he volleyed home after a good piece of play by Max Alvarez on the right opened up the chance to find the Irish forward with his cross. James Kiffe then added a fourth with four minutes to go as he played a give-and-go with trialist Manny Cazares to get in one-on-one with the goalkeeper, and sent a chipped finish into the right corner of the net.
“We certainly upped our game tonight,” said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “We looked very good, we have not trained on astroturf, so to come here and perform that was really good. I am very, very pleased with the attitude of the players and our passing was excellent tonight.”
