SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento Republic FC hosts its MLS partner the San Jose Earthquakes at Bonney Field on Saturday night for its second game of the preseason. The game, presented by Wells Fargo, is set for a 5 p.m. PT kickoff.
Saturday will be the fifth meeting between the two teams since Republic FC joined the USL for the 2014 season, with arguably the most memorable encounter coming a year ago as the two clubs met in the Fourth Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup that saw the Earthquakes advance in a penalty shootout.
Sacramento took a two-goal lead on goals by Rodrigo Lopez and Emrah Klimenta in the first half, but the Earthquakes rallied to level the score as U.S. international Chris Wondolowski scored a pair of goals. After a scoreless 30 minutes of overtime, the Quakes won 6-5 in the shootout.

Republic FC has seen a number of Earthquakes players join its ranks over the past two seasons, including former U.S. U20 international Tommy Thompson, and forwards Mark Sherrod and Adam Jahn. Thompson had a goal and two assists to help push Republic FC into the playoffs a year ago, while Sherrod also contributed a goal.Sacramento fell 1-0 to the Colorado Rapids in its preseason opener last Saturday at Bonney Field as the club introduced a number of new faces into the lineup. Goalkeeper Evan Newton, defenders Mike da Fonte and Chris Christian and midfielder Mike LaGrassa all made their debuts for Republic FC, and helped limit Colorado to only three shots on goal.
