SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento Republic FC opens its preseason slate on Saturday as the Colorado Rapids visit Bonney Field. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. PT.
Republic FC has spent the past week in Sinaloa, Mexico to start its preseason preparations as the club looks to integrate a number of new faces who will likely make their debut on Saturday. As a result, while Coach Paul Buckle is aiming to put in a good performance, building chemistry within the squad will likely be more important than the result itself.
“As much as we want to go and win the game, we’ve been training just over 10 days,” Buckle told the Sacramento Bee’s Bill Paterson. “We have not had an 11 vs. 11 match. We are behind an MLS team in terms of numbers, finance and training, so let’s not forget that.
“Having said all of that, we want to put a good performance on. We’ve been training hard since the first day we came back (Feb. 1), and we will try to come out and play the best we can for our fans. Hopefully, adrenaline will play its part.”

Colorado has also seen a number of changes this offseason, with former U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder Pablo Mastroeni looking for a marked improvement of a last-place finish in the MLS Western Conference in 2015. Among the new faces will be Conor Doyle, acquired in a trade this week with D.C. United.
The Rapids have already faced USL opposition this preseason, as they took a 2-0 win against Orange County Blues FC on Monday which saw former Charlotte Independence loanee Caleb Calvert find the net. Irish international Kevin Doyle added a second to wrap up the victory.
Saturday’s game will be the Rapids organization’s second visit to Bonney Field, after Republic FC took a thrilling 4-3 win in a regular-season contest in 2014 against the Rapids Reserves thanks to a late winner by Mike Fucito.Live updates from the game will be available on Twitter (@SacRepublicFC) and through the #SACvCOL hashtag.
