TROIS-RIVIÈRES, Quebec – FC Montreal got a pair of goals from young standout Ballou Jean-Yves Tabla as it took a 4-0 victory against Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières on Sunday night. Mastanabal Kacher and Jacques Haman, pictured, also found the net as Montreal took its first win of the preseason.

“It was an interesting game with more pace than last week,” said Montreal Head Coach Philippe Eullaffroy. “[Our] attacking moves were better with more options and chances to score. We found the back of the net in the last 15 minutes. We are in a phase where we work a bit more individually than collectively. We are preparing the second part of the preseason.”

Montreal fielded a side comprised of mostly U18 Academy players in the first half as Eullaffroy looked at potential options for his squad, which resulted in an even contest that remained scoreless at the halftime break. In the second half, a more experienced group took the field, and that experience told with 12 minutes to go when Kacher broke the deadlock as his effort from the right found the net.

Tabla, a former Canadian U17 Player of the Year, then struck twice in two minutes to put the game beyond reach. In the 85th minute, Tabla cut in from the left flank, beat his defender, and sent home a low finish. A minute later, Tabla was on hand at the back post to put away Fabio Morelli’s cross to make it 3-0.

Haman, who had three goals in nine appearances for Montreal a season ago, capped the victory as Morelli again played a role, setting up the forward at the penalty spot to shoot home.

FC Montreal will continue its preseason preparations against Université Laval on Sunday, Feb.7 at 3:30 p.m. in Quebec City.
