CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Battery Head Coach Mike Anhaeuser said he saw a lot of positives as the club concluded its invitational camp at MUSC Health Stadium with a 3-1 win against the College of Charleston on Sunday.

Played in three 55-minute periods, the Battery got goals from Aaron Walker, Chris Tsonis and Dominic Bonilla to leave Anhaeuser, also the club’s General Manager, with a lot to consider as the club gets set for its preseason to kick off this week.

“The level is very high,” Anhaeuser said. “For not even knowing each other? The players that were here all performed at a good level, and once you can get them intermixed with the players that you have, even the few that didn’t play, I think it will be pretty good.

“But it never ends up just with these players. We’ll probably have one, two or three more [prospects] sliding through the gaps. But I’ll tell you: I think it’s a really good start, and I think there’s a lot of talent here. I’ll have some tough decisions to make in the next day, because it’s a quick turn-around.”

The players were split into three teams for the scrimmage, with the Blue roster scoring twice in the opening period as Walker opened the scoring with a fine shot from a free kick. Tsonis, who had five goals and three assists in 2015 for the New York Red Bulls II, added the second as he put home a finish from the left.

The Cougars had bright spots too, and scored the only goal in the second period as Tucker Heffron fired home a finish. Former UNC-Charlotte midfielder Bonilla then scored the only goal of the third period as the Battery restored their two-goal advantage.

The Battery will kick off their official preseason schedule on Wednesday night, as they host Coastal Carolina at 7 p.m. ET at MUSC Health Stadium.
