TAMPA, Fla. – The United Soccer League announced today the Rochester Rhinos’ Bob Lilley has been voted the 2015 USL Coach of the Year.

Lilley led the Rhinos to both the USL Regular Season Championship, and the 2015 USL Championship as the club became just the second in the league’s five-year history to achieve that feat.

The 2015 USL Awards were voted on by team management, a nationwide panel of media representatives from all 24 USL markets and an online fan poll.

Lilley returned to lead the Rhinos for a second time at the start of the 2014 USL season. This season, his emphasis and attention to detail saw the Rhinos lose just once in all competitions, against the Charlotte Independence in the USL regular season, as they were eliminated in a penalty shootout by eventual finalist the Philadelphia Union in the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

The Rhinos’ outstanding defense also set USL records for most shutouts in a regular season (17 in 28 games) and fewest goals conceded (15). Much of the credit for the club’s turnaround after missing the playoffs in 2013 was placed with Lilley’s ability to have his players buy into his system of pressing play.

The 2015 USL Awards are being announced throughout this week, and continue with the unveiling of the 2015 USL Rookie of the Year on Thursday.
