HOUSTON – Former Austin Aztex goalkeeper Devin Perales and Philadelphia Union forward Dzenan Catic highlighted five new signings announced by Rio Grande Valley FC on Monday as the club added MLS, USL and international experience to its squad.

Perales had a strong rookie season for the Aztex in 2015, as he posted a 1.16 goals-against average in 16 appearances for the side. A former standout for the Aztex in the PDL, which whom he claimed the championship in 2013, Perales was a two-time PDL All-Conference selection, and was a finalist for the league’s Goalkeeper of the Year and Young Player of the Year in 2013.

Catic was the 2014 PDL Most Valuable Player for the Michigan Bucks as he helped the club claim the 2014 PDL Championship. Selected by the Union in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft, Catic made seven appearances on loan with the Harrisburg City Islanders in the 2015 USL regular season.

Also joining the Toros are defender Kevin Garcia, and midfielders George Malki and Charlie Ward. Malki previously played in the USL for Arizona United SC, and reunites with Toros assistant coach Michael Dellorusso after making 24 appearances in the USL regular season in 2015.

A former New England Revolution MLS Supplemental Draft selection, Garcia most recently played for Swedish club IFK Luleå, where he made 30 appearances over the past two seasons. Ward, meanwhile, arrives after a stint with English Premier League club Stoke City’s Under-21 team, having previously played in Aston Villa’s Academy.

“They have experience playing professionally within MLS, USL or internationally,” RGV FC Head Coach Wilmer Cabrera said. “That is important when you have to build a team. They have enough talent and are looking to be successful with the team and to create an opportunity to move to the Houston Dynamo first team.”
