CHESTER, Pa. – Bethlehem Steel FC will have a familiar face on its back line in the 2016 USL season, after the club announced it had acquired former Philadelphia Union defender Ryan Richter from Ottawa Fury FC, pending receipt of his ITC.
The No. 5 selection of the Union in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft, Richter appeared in three exhibitions for the Union during his time with the club. Richter went on to play in the USL for the Charleston Battery in 2012, where he helped the side claim the league championship, before stints with Toronto FC in MLS and Ottawa in the past three seasons.

“We are very happy to have Ryan back in the Union family,” Steel FC Head Coach Brendan Burke said. “We know that he had serious interest from a number of other clubs around USL and NASL, so this proved to be a key signing for us. He is a local guy and this move made a lot of sense for everyone involved.”A native of Southampton, Pa., Richter competed in college for La Salle University, where he was the 2010 Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year. He also competed for the Ocean City Nor’easters in the PDL, where he made 45 appearances across three seasons with the club.
