RENO, Nev. – Reno 1868 FC was introduced on Thursday afternoon by Reno Aces President Eric Edelstein as the name of the USL’s first 2017 expansion club.
“We have asked for our new fans’ feedback throughout, and they have delivered a name which will uniquely represent our community in the soccer world,” said Edelstein. “The dynamics of the name and wordmark script are just the beginning of a very exciting revealing process.”
The club sought its fans’ input on its name, with more than 3,000 submissions being entered over almost four months. Club officials narrowed the voting to the six most common submissions, and after a two-week poll three names rose to the top – Reno 1868, Reno FC and Reno United. After a further week of voting, Reno 1868 pulled away to become the club’s official name.
